Qi’a Giveaway

Hi beautiful people!

Well two weeks ago I promised a giveaway.  In the meantime the worst finals week of my life hit <–seriously, I wish I were kidding!  And anything that didn’t involve working, catching a bit of sleep when I could (and by “a bit” I mean 4-ish hours a night ugh), drinking more caffeine in two weeks than I do in an average 3-month span, and showering every now and then, nothing else mattered.

But alas I am back…and here is the giveaway as promised.

Truth be told, I wish I had a bit of Qi’a in my pantry during finals to fuel and energize me.

Qia_2012 (5)

Delicious, versatile, crunchy Qi’a.

Qia_2012 (9)

Guaranteed, non-GMO, nutrient-packed, filling Qi’a.

Qia_2012 (4)

Qi’a that can be all yours.  Not just one bag.  But three…one of each flavor.

The wonderful people at Nature’s Path have decided to share all three flavors with a lucky winner.

Simply leave a comment below telling me which flavor you’re most excited to try.

The giveaway ends Friday, March 22 at 11:59pm.

Sharing the Couponing Love…with you!

One of my favorite things about couponing is the chance to get free stuff.  And I don’t mean just at the store…oh no, there’s a ton of companies ready and willing to give out free samples to those who take the time to look.

Luckily for me (and you), Hip2Save does the searching for us.

Though my dedication to couponing waxes and wanes depending on my mood, my coursework, etc, I diligently read Colin’s daily newsletter to see what free samples are up for grabs.  After all, it usually takes about five minutes to read the e-mail and an additional minute to fill in any sample request forms.  Six to eight weeks later, the goodies, which at this point you barely remember requesting, show up in your mailbox.  Its kind of like Christmas/Chanukah come early, dontcha think?  😉

Most of the time the companies giving out the swag allow you to opt-out of their newsletter.  Even if that isn’t the case, there’s always the handy “unsubscribe” button.  And really, at the end of the day, free stuff is worth a minute of your time and the “hassle” *coughcough* of unsubscribing from a newsletter.

Especially when the surprise goodies look like this…

Cute box…but what’s inside???

The goodies I kept!

In the spirit of full disclosure, I didn’t get the Love with Food box completely free since I had to pay the whopping $2 for shipping but I’d still cal it a win.  😉  Although I couldn’t eat everything in the box, I signed up for the December box because a) it was on sale for only $5 (including shipping) and b) for the months of November and December the company was donating two meals to Sandy victims for every box purchased.  I figured $7 for two months (versus $24) was pretty good.  And those mini crunch things were soooo good!  In fact, they were my favorite goodie in this box.  The juice spruced up some smoothies and the Inca Corn satisfied my PMS. The cookie, on the other hand, was stale-tasting and a huge disappointment.  You win some you lose some, right?

I’ve gotten a ton of other random samples in the meantime…and I must say, there really isn’t anything quite like opening your mailbox to free stuff you forgot you ordered.  It always brings a smile to my day, regardless of how stressful or long or difficult it has been.  And today I’m sharing some of that (holiday) joy with you all!

You see, in the various samples that I’ve gotten there’s undoubtedly been stuff that doesn’t interest me, either because it isn’t vegan, it has caffeine, or I just don’t care for it.  Instead of tossing it or letting the beau take it all (true story: he couldn’t resist the Asian-flavored Turkey Jerky that came in the Love Box <–I know this breaks many hearts, right?! tehe), I figured I would do a mishmash giveaway.

I don’t want to ruin the surprise by telling you exactly what’s coming but I will say there is chocolate, tea, and baking stuff.  <–ok I guess that kind of ruined it but you don’t know the specifics. *evil laugh*

To enter, simply leave a comment below telling me about your ultimate free sample.  Aka if you could receive anything from a company, what would it be?  The contest ends on Thursday, Dec 13 at 11:59 EST.  A winner will be chosen at random.  *Not all products are vegan.

Now since its the Holiday season and I’m the only person in my apartment complex with a Christmas tree up <–#wishIwerejoking I figured I share my little slice of Christmas spirit with you all.  It isn’t much, but it makes me ridiculously happy.

Christmas 2012 (2)

And finally…a sneak peak at my first speaking event!  This past Saturday I partnered with Johns Hopkins’ Center for Health Education and Wellness (CHEW) to present at the first ever Panhellenic Council aka sorority council) Wellness Day.  I had a blast and am excited to be working with CHEW on a number of future events.  I am so grateful for the opportunity and the day really reaffirmed my love for public speaking & performing <–because isn’t every public speaking event a bit of a performance?  I think so! as well as for working with women to create change.  It was a great day and I can’t wait until February’s events.

Leading a yoga-inspired gratitude exercise.

Now that I’ve totally distracted you…don’t forget to enter the giveaway by telling me about your ultimate free sample!  😉

Project: Food Budget, Weeks 39 + 40 AND a GF Giveaway

Wow…its week 40 already!  That means only 12 more official weeks for P:FB!  <–that’s insane!

This is going to be a quickie check in, not only because I haven’t been keeping close track of everything but also because today marks my first day of classes!

Given the events of the past few weeks (moving, losing power, etc), my budget has been a bit up and down.  The week I  moved in…well I can’t even tell you how much I spent.  I was constantly running to the closest store (which happened to be Shoppers…not the cheapest IMO) to grab lemon juice or flour or something else mid-cooking/baking that I believed I had…but didn’t.  Try not to do this folks…its gets expensive and annoying!

I promise more food porn posts coming soon.  And by food porn I mean mediocre pictures of outstanding, drool-worthy food that looks good despite the fact that my photography skills are far from good.  <–not saying this to self-patronizing but rather to let you know that photography just isn’t a top priority of mine.

Now about that budget…

Week 39: $30.50 (savings ???)
Week 40: $69.90  (savings: >$30)

So if you are wondering what happened this week, its called stocking up on overpriced non-perishables so I can eat semi-healthy without access to a fridge.  Then of course, I did have access to a fridge but not an affordable grocery store so…I paid the Giant prices (double entendre fully intended)  Luckily, the beau paid for half of those since he was worried about me eating.  And I have enough larabars + raw sprouted trail mix to last me for months.  <–seriously.

Giveaway Alert!

Wegmans just recently debuted its Food You Feel Good About (FYFGA) gluten-free line.  FYFGA products are made without artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.  As part of the debut, they sent us obsessed loyal customers coupons for some goodies.  Since I don’t really need the products, I thought I would do the nice thing and share the love with you all!

Up for grabs…

Wegmans Food You Feel Good About Gluten Free Sugar Cookie MixSugar Cookie Mix (only 70 cal/cookie)

Wegmans Food You Feel Good About Gluten Free Fusilli
Fusili corn pasta (only 2 ingredients: corn + water!)

Though I haven’t had either of these products, I have sampled and purchased many private-label products from Wegmans and have been impressed with them all.  The sugar cookie mix also has a 5 Star rating on the Wegmans site.  just sayin’.  😉

To enter: just leave a comment below.  Giveaway ends on Sunday, July 7 at 11:59pm.

That’s it for today folks.

Project: Food Budget, Week 29 + a Giveaway!

Tip of the Week

A little PSA today.  Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed some things getting a little *ahem* tight.  And not in the “Hello Sexy” way!  There are numerous factors which played a role in this situation, couponing included.  So today’s tip is a bit of a lesson and a bit of a cautionary tale.

Repeat after me: just because you can buy something and have a coupon for it doesn’t mean you should buy it.  That Dagoba chocolate bar..those packets of Justin’s…all that Nature’s Path <–too many links to share you get the picture.  But wait, you say, you only use healthy coupons!  Yea…I know.  Nutbutter is healthy…in small amount.  So is cereal…when I’m not eating it by the (several) box-fuls.  Again, I’m not blaming couponing entirely, but it certainly played a role.  Here’s the thing, it is way easier to snack when you know you’ve got a stockpile of your drug of choice or coupons for to get it for cheap or free.  Want to know how I know?  My last bag of Udi’s is still sitting in my pantry.  That definitely did not happen with bags 1 or 2 (I had three free product coupons)!

I’m not being too hard on myself (most days…) because I know right now things in my life are absolutely crazy.  In fact, a part of me is happy that this occurred because now that I’m aware of this “trigger” so-to-speak, I can take the steps to change it and not accidentally fall into this pattern again. Use coupons to fuel a healthier lifestyle, not the opposite!

Weekly Menu

Asparagus Caesar Salad

Bday oats and mango + coconut

The Morning After

I also made…

  • Dijon Rice with Broccoli (EHH I added Tofurkey beer brats…delish!)
  • Crazy Good Hummus (P&TY)
  • Lots of green smoothies and arugula salad

This week and last week I’m eating out a ton between bday and farewell dinners + luncheons.  Its awesome and sad all at once…

Spending Savings

Wegmans: $28.13
Trader’s: $12.08
Total: $40.21 <– w00t!  🙂

Eligible Spending: $28.13
Savings: $11.97 (43%)

*whew* and I’m back.  I’m also happy to report that my entire cart was fresh foods…except for the Tofurkey Beer Brats I got for $0.99.  Here’s to recommitting to my healthy lifestyle.  Also, since I didn’t have to buy as much as usual (see above note re: eating out), I was able to splurge on some things I wouldn’t normally get.  You’ll have to check my next Adventurous April post for that!

Company of the Week

Man-oh-man am I excited to share this company with you.  I discovered their products on accident and have become obsessed.  I honestly love everything about this company, especially their Mission Statement:

We are a team of fair trade visionaries and food-loving explorers on a mission to connect you to our farmers and their honest foods. When you taste the sweet justice of our mission you will understand our persistence, and our invitation to join us in finding your Alter Eco.

Seriously, that makes me want to get up and dance.  Or run off into battle.  Same difference, right?  I love me a company that is 100% committed to animal, human, and environmental rights and activism.  Now onto the food!  Their 16 gourmet products come from small farmers all over the world and include things like sugar, rice, quinoa, and chocolate.  YUM. I’ve only had the quinoa but it is by far the best I’ve ever tried.  With some coupons I found on Common Kindness, I’ve been getting it for the same price as the Trader Joe’s version.  For all the reasons I mentioned, Alter Eco won.

Anyway, last week Chelsey reviewed some awesome products that Alter Eco sent her.  Now I’m not quite on the up-and-up as these longer-established folks so I hadn’t been contacted.  No biggie…I did what any good food blogger in desire of products does: e-mail the company and ask.  What a response I got…

Now this is their picture…my box is waiting in CT at Mom’s house for when I move home for the month.  You can bet a full review will take place once I get there.  For now though, I’ll have to be content drooling with my imagination.

Not you though.  No no, I wouldn’t tease like that.  <–at least not with food!  Tehe 😉  I know you’re salivating on your side of the screen.  Seriously, don’t try and deny it.  Wouldn’t you just love a gift basket like the one above?  Yea I thought so.  That’s why I e-mailed Alter Eco to see if they would sponsor a giveaway.  The box of goodies they sent me was just the icing on the cake.

If you’d like to win your own basket of Alter Eco heaven goodies, leave a comment below:

1. Which Alter Eco product would you like to try the most?

2. For extra entries do any of the following (you must leave a separate comment for each):

Contest ends Wednesday, April 26, 2012 and winner will be chosen randomly. Open to continental U.S. residents only.

That’s it for this week folks!  Don’t forget to check out my fellow P:FB bloggers!

Lube Giveaway (closes tonight/Wednesday, March 28 at 12am EST)
Crockpot Giveaway (closes Wednesday, March 28 at 11:59pm EST)

Now for more future talk!  A couple weeks ago I invited you all join me as I look forward to my move to Baltimore.  We talked about crock-pots (interestingly the one I’m giving away!) and non-stick cookware and Kaybird.  This week…its all about water closet/powder room/bathroom.  Yes, I give you full permission to return tomorrow for a (much) less fluffy post.  No, I’m not going to be talking about potty time…well, not too much!  😉

I do quickly want to address one thing: my roommate.  I lucked out when it came to finding someone random who is clean (relatively, of course, in the same way that I’m clean), laid back, etc.  These lists are in no way a reflection on him but rather me looking forward to not having to share a space.  Totally different issues and I know you all get it.

I’m incredibly lucky now because I have a massive bathroom.  I doubt I’ll have that in the city but there are other perks of having a bathroom to call your own that will more than make up for the lack of size.  Presented in no particular order, here’s what I’m looking forward to in having my own bathroom!  Yes…these are things I think about.  Don’t you know this about me by now?  Teheh

  • The toilet seat and cover will stay down, therefore saving my toothbrush and other toiletries from “those” germs that get ejected into the air every. single. time. you flush!  I’ve taught beau to do this because it totally skeeves me out!
  • Leaving the door open after a shower.  And hopefully saving my stainless steel accessories from additional rusting.  At the end of the day, I’m really hoping for a fan.  *fingers crossed*  Oh and we close the door to help save $ on our energy bill since we keep the hallway/kitchen/living room more temp regulated for Ms. Kaybird.
  • No more boy hair.  This is nothing against my roommate who is very clean and not very hairy.  But every now and then some of that facial hair escapes and uuugh.  And yes I’m running a double standard hair. But my hair is ok to touch because, well, its mine.  And to be honest, even my hair creeps me out a litte!  haha
  • Taking a bath.  Yes, we have a bathtub now.  Yet no matter how hard I scrub, it still looks dirty.  No way am I sinking my awesome God Pod into that, despite how much my bath bombs and salts and essential oils are calling my name!
  • Air drying.  ‘Nuff said.
  • If its yellow…. If you don’t know the rest of that rhyme then we can’t be friends.   Kidding…kind of.   But for reals…saving water is good for the earth and your karma/chi/abundance.
  • Peeing with the door open.  You know I had to throw some potty time talk in here, right?!

Speaking of potty time, check out these totally awesome toilets!  <–yes, this is happening

And just so the gents don’t feel left out, how’d you like to do your biz in one of these urinals?  Bahaha

Just Another Manic Monday…with a Giveaway! (CLOSED)

Happy Monday Loves!  I hope you enjoyed our little adventure down Passion Blvd last week!  I had a blast writing about Passion and can’t wait to explore the topics you’ve inquired about some more.  Don’t forget…the Passion giveaway is open until this Wednesday, March 28 at 12am EST!  I think somefree lubecan help make even the most manic of Mondays a little better, don’t you?  😉

Speaking of things that make Mondays better, how about tools to help simplify your life?  A couple weeks ago <–seriously, has it been that long?! I wrote about a number of experiences I’m looking forward to having in my Baltimore kitchen.  One of them was using a crock pot.  Momma came up for a visit yesterday and in addition to being my coupon caper sidekick, she took some things home to clean + prep for the new apartment.  Things like this bad boy:

Oh Crock-Pot…the wonderful things people say about you.  A time-saver, a working mom/dad/gal/guy’s best friend, an overnight miracle worker. With you by my side I can dishes like Mama Pea’s Spicy African Peanut Stew and Janetha’s Slow Cooked Steel Cut Oatmeal plus use Ashley’s method for doing dried beans.  I can set you and run to class or yoga or my bed and come back to have a meal all ready.  *sigh*

What’s that?  You’re jealous and want one too?  Well, you happen to be in luck!   This week you have the chance to win a highly reviewed 3qt Crock-Pot courtesy of SlimKicker.com!  SlimKicker helps you stay motivated to stick with your fitness + diet goals. They also offer tools such as a calorie counter and fitness tracker. In other words, its a fantastic tool making your Monday, and every other day, a little less hectic while helping you to stick to your weight loss and/or healthy living goals… just like a Crock-Pot.

I’d say that’s a good thing!

To enter, simply leave a comment below answering this question: What’s one thing you do that keeps you motivated to stay fit?  The contest ends Wednesday, March 28 at 11:59 EDT and is open to US residents only (sorry my fantastic international readers. 😦 ).

Now back to my mania…
